Speidel Fermenter NPT Male Dip Tube and Thermowell

So i bought this because the plastic spigot on my fermenter was getting worn. Plus i wanted a way to monitor fermentation temps more accurately. Its a really nice component, very clean welds, and the silicone gasket seems like it will be durable. Something to consider - because of the thermowell, the valve fitting is spaced a little further from the plate than you would think. Once you add on a ball valve, and a hose barb, it protrudes quite a bit. This is a non issue for storage (remove assembly and place in top of fermenter). I use a cool brew bag to ferment, and even though i only use a 20L Speidel, it makes getting a fully loaded fermenter in the bag tricky. That said, the thermowell alone, makes up for it. Very happy with the upgrade.

The OEM spigot will leave a full gallon of beer in the bottom the 60L fermentor and one needs to either brew to ferment 11 gallons or tilt the fermentor to get the last gallon out. Tilting tends to facilitate the yeast cake and other sludge to come along with the last gallon. This dip tube will leave just 1/3 of gallon and I have not had an issue with picking up yeast or other stuff. I also have never had the ability to track the temperature of the inside of the fermentor before. My temperature control is now much more accurate. The experience with NorCal was also topnotch with easy ordering and speedy order fulfillment.

I am using in a 60L Speidel fermenter. I ran a trial with water and the dip tube will drain all but 1/2 gal of liquid. I always brew enough to leave the trub behind and fill the fermenters to 11 gallons. I will be able to fill 2 kegs without tipping the fermentor to finish filling the 2nd keg and and and avoid transferring the yeast or sediment from the bottom. The thermowell reaches the center of the fermenter about 3" from the bottom. It easily accepts the probe included with the Inkbird temperature controller.

I love speidel fermenters but I have always through they needed so upgrades. Nopcal brewing solutions provides them. Very thoughtful custom upgrades, these guys clearly use these fermenters as well. Do yourself a favor and spend whatever extra money you have to upgrade.
