Speidel Fermenter Dip Tube

I need to make a CORRECTION TO MY PREVIOUS REVIEW where I said that I needed a slightly more drastic bend in this dip tube for my 60L Speidel---the dip tube I based the review on was from another vendor(Sorry guys!). I swapped the NorCal version from my 30L, and it fits perfectly with only about a half-inch of dead space!

I live these accessory products for my Speidels fermenters, however I’m going to have to put more of a bend in this if I can for my 60L due to the massive dead space(1-1.5 gallons of loss-even with fairly heavy trub). Shouldn’t be a problem with the ‘ol pipe bender I bought when I installed a HERMS coil in my HLT, I hope.
Our responseHey John, thanks for the input. In order to fit the smallest AND the largest Speidel tanks (and not have a bazillion different part numbers) we opted to take the "one size fits all" approach to the dip tube length and bend. Unfortunately this DOES produce a bit more dead space in the larger vessels. THE SOLUTION: Add a short piece of tubing to the pickup end of the dip tube. The added bonus is that you can direct the tube (by varying the position of the dip tube a bit off-center) away from the center bottom of the vessel (usually the highest point on the larger Speidels) to one side or the other, where there are "wells" that are actually deeper than the center point. Try it - you will be amazed at the results! Cheers, Victor.
